Our Story

For over 19 years, we have been operating Shearwater Home By The Sea, a project that took Celeste and Michael over three years of dedicated effort to establish. We envisioned a business that would encapsulate the joyous activities that the Oregon Coast has to offer. The beach lifestyle and myriad activities keep us tethered to Depoe Bay.

We aim to provide you with information that will guide you toward the activities and places that are local favorites. Many of these places and activities are known nationally, like this area’s lighthouses, deep sea fishing, and whale watching.

“This 3 story house was perfect for our family get away. Michael was gracious amd installed baby gates for us, making us feel more at ease with the little one. The beach here was a hit with lots of agates to be found. The home was well stocked for a large group but if you’re a baker, take your own pans as these were well used. I recommend this home and would definitelybook again.”

“Beautiful ocean views! Best equipped house we have ever stayed at! (Most places say they sleep 12, but actually have plates and chairs for only 6) This home had PLENTY of dishes, HUGE dining table that fit 15 of us! Plenty of beds with enough sheets, blankets and pillows to go around.

Our kids with disabilities appreciated bathroom rails and bath bench. Only main floor would be wheelchair accessible. Lots of stairs. Access to beach is right out the back door. Very convenient for able-bodied folk, but the dirt path was steep and challenging for ours who use crutches. But the owner is VERY attentive. He came in person to fix the grill. He plans to upgrade the beach path to make it more accessible. He was very friendly and helpful. Absolutely Excellent stay!”

Beautiful beachfront stay

“Our group of adults from two families thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Shearwater. The house is very spacious, clean, and well-appointed (though you should bring your own shampoo and bath soap). It is right on the beach, with a short and easy access from the house to the sand. We could sit in the living room, kitchen, dining room, bedrooms, and pool table room and look out at the waves. (This was especially nice because it rained constantly through the weekend we were there.) There is a dramatic short hike at the south end of the beach, and a short drive south will take you to Fogarty Bay for tidepooling. We usually stay at a different house each year, but we might actually come back to Shearwater.”
